The Rail, Maritime, and Transport workers’ union warned of “profound safety issues”, adding a new crew on £1.80 an hour “will be inexperienced”.
It said ex-staff on the Dover to Calais route used to do 18 round trips a week before a week’s paid rest.
But agency crew may do up to eight weeks at a time.
