IT may seem churlish to talk about defending when Liverpool are setting scoring records but it will be the key to their season.

Yes, they have kept three clean sheets in the past week and scored a combined total of 10 goals in the process. But that has masked a concern at the back.

In dismantling Southampton, Liverpool equalled yet another top-flight record. They have now scored two or more goals in their last 17 matches in all competitions, equalling a mark set by Sunderland back in 1927.

Perhaps even more remarkably, they have an average of three goals in every Premier League game they've played this season.
