Charities last night blasted the Government for pressing ahead with a £20-a-week Universal Credit cut just as gas bills are set to soar.
Around 4.4 million households on the welfare payment are poised to see energy bills rocket in October – the same month they will typically lose over 5% of disposable income, according to the Resolution Foundation.
Chief executive Torsten Bell said it would be “mad” to make the £1,040-ayear cut now.
