THE UK has committed to huge CO2 cuts, signalling a revolution in everything from the food we eat to the homes we live in.
Boris Johnson pledged a 78% fall by 2035 compared to 1990 levels. The PM had previously targeted a 68% reduction by 2030.
Climate law will be extended to cover international aviation and shipping as the UK bids to hit net-zero emissions by 2050.
It comes as the UK prepares to host the UN’s COP26 climate summit later this year. President Joe Biden is due to outline his targets for the US on Thursday. It is understood both countries, will press China and other nations, to make stronger commitments too.
The UK accounts for 1.1% of global emissions, compared with 15% in the US and 26% from China.
