ALMOST 50,000 cancer patients have not been diagnosed due to the NHS backlog, a charity warns.Macmillan Cancer Support studied the difference between expected and observed cases.It found 47,000 people are unaware they have the disease. Thousands more are hit by delays and disruption to treatment, it revealed.Macmillan&#39;s Steven McIntosh said: &ldquo;Cancer patients are stuck, waiting in a system that doesn&#39;t have the capacity to treat them fast enough, let alone deal with a backlog yet to come forward.&quot; Macmillan is concerned about the shortage of cancer nurses.It said the health service would need to work at 110% capacity for 13 months to catch up with people who should have started treatment since March 2020.The Department of Health and Social Care said: &ldquo;Most cancer services are back to or above pre-pandemic levels and figures show a reduction in patients waiting for a scan &#1072; for the first time this year.&quot;
