CAMPAIGNERS have called for every driver caught by Britain’s busiest speed camera to have fines refunded after police admitted that the machine is defective.

The 30mph limit spy is believed to have made more than £5million from 2015 to 2017 after official figures showed it flashed more than 51,000 motorists.

But police say the camera has given wrong speed readings for “high flat rear” vehicles such as caravans.

So far, two drivers have successfully challenged readings by the camera on the Maybray King Way dual carriageway in Southampton, where the minimum speeding fine is £100.
