QUEEN: ‘DEEPLY TOUCHED BY SUPPORT AND KINDNESS'

THE Queen gave the nation a courageous smile and her heartfelt gratitude yesterday as she spent her 95th birthday without her beloved husband for the first time in more than 70 years.

A photo posted on the Royal Family’s Instagram account showed a radiant, smiling monarch wearing a burgundy ensemble at a royal engagement last year.

It was quickly followed by an extraordinary personal message from the Queen, thanking people for their support during the period of mourning for the Duke of Edinburgh, who died aged 99 on April 9.

In a full statement posted on Twitter, she said: “I have, on the occasion of my 95th birthday today, received many messages of good wishes, which I very much appreciate.
