People trying the UK’s first no-tills grocery shop said it was “strange” – and some felt like shoplifters.
Hundreds visited Amazon’s “just walk out” store when it opened for the first time yesterday.
Shoppers must download the Amazon app and log into their account before scanning a barcode on the way into Amazon Fresh.
Once inside, they place items in a bag and walk out with the shopping. Ceiling-mounted cameras and sensors track customers and their purchases, and they are automatically billed as they leave.
The store in Ealing, west London – Amazon’s first “just walk out” shop outside the US and the first Fresh store in Europe – stocks hundreds of own-brand products, including a new premium line called Our Selection.
It also has Morrisons and Booths goods and own brand items. In addition, people can collect or return online purchases there. It is open from 7am to 11pm.
