Shocked Line of Duty TV fans are hoping for back-up to save Vicky McClure’s character from last night’s cliffhanger.

DI Kate Fleming was lured to a lorry park by her boss Jo Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) and ended up in a Mexican stand-off.

Shots were fired, but nobody knows if it was a case of “officer down”.

Vicky, who has been in the BBC show since the first series, has hinted Kate’s time might be up to satisfy the plot.

She said of showmaker Jed Mercurio: “Every episode of Line of Duty is terrifying and Jed is always there to serve the story and that is what Jed will always do.”

Fans have been agonising over the possibility that one of the main trio of officers – Kate, fellow DI Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) and DS Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) – would be killed off after Mercurio stressed that nobody was safe.
