House prices just keep on soaring

THE average home has surged in value by £20,000 in a year with signs that the property market is hotting up.

House prices rose by 8.6 per cent in the 12 months to February – the highest annual rate of growth since October 2014, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Homes are now worth £250,000 on average, a £20,000 increase on February 2020, it added.

The North-west was the English region with the highest annual growth at nearly 12 per cent while London was the lowest at 4.6 per cent.

The figures were released as HM Revenue and Customs said that house sales in March 2021 were around double the number a year previously.
