Flags at half mast as abbey bell tolls

FLAGS on government buildings are flying at half-mast in tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh. And last night, the tenor bell of Westminster Abbey tolled 99 times, one for each year of Prince Philip’s life.

The Union flag and other national flags were lowered following guidance from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and will remain so until the morning after his funeral.

The advice also calls for non-official flags, such as the Armed Forces flag or the rainbow flag for the LGBTQ+ community, to be taken down and replaced with the Union flag at half-mast.

The fire station in Worthing was among many across the country to follow the guidance, as did the Houses of Parliament,
