The National Lottery is in its best shape ever, delivering records in both amounts to good causes and sales – despite the pandemic – says boss Nigel Railton.

He said it provided £1.9billion for communities last year, of which £1.2billion funded projects responding to the impact of Covid-19.

Also, the Government gained more than £1billion in lottery taxes and commissions from retailers, taking the total generated for the country to £3.1billion.

The lottery’s operator Camelot said it was able to provide unprecedented support after sales rose for the fourth consecutive year, up £468.8million to a record £8.4billion despite the pandemic.
