Armistice funeral for shooting trial veteran

A NORTHERN Ireland veteran who died in the middle of a trial over a shooting nearly 50 years ago will be buried on the most evocative day in the military calendar.

The funeral of Dennis Hutchings, 80, is to be held on November 11 – Armistice Day.

A huge turnout is expected at the service at St Andrew’s Church in Plymouth, not far from his home in Cawsand, Cornwall.

The timing of the funeral will maximise the embarrassment for the Government, which has failed to honour a pledge to stop Northern Ireland veterans being dragged through the courts.
