The surge has led to the smallpox treatment Imvanex being made available so it can be offered to those who have come in very close contact with someone who is infected.
There are 3,500 doses already in Britain but more are being procured by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).

Scotland confirmed its first case but yesterday Northern Ireland and Wales said they have had no reports of cases so far.
