German drugmaker Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) has obtained two separate interim injunctions from the Himachal Pradesh HC against India's MSN Laboratories and Dr Reddy's Laboratories (DRL) for patent infringement of its antidiabetic drug empagliflozin.

Germany's BI And Indian Pharma In Legal Battle

The firms had recently launched cheaper and generic versions of empagliflozin. BI holds a patent for empagliflozin under the name Jardiance in India till 2025, the German pharma said.

A BI India spokesperson said the ad-interim injunction restrains the two domestic pharma manufacturers from launching, making, using, offering for sale, selling, importing and/or exporting their respective generic version of empagliflozin drugs”.
