In total, 42 SDF members resigned from primary membership as well as various positions within the party, though the SDF informed the media that only seven resignations were accepted. Among the others, some were not members at all, and others had resigned earlier.
Interacting with the media Ganesh Rai informed reporters that the decision to dissociate with the party was taken under compulsion after concerted efforts to bring the needed reforms within the party went in vain.
Speaking on their plans after calling it quits with SDF, Rai said, We are in the course of chalking out future programmes and strategies. We have not ditched the SDF Party. We took this step to live up to our responsibility towards our mother Sikkim. We will move ahead with a new ideology, thoughts, and programmes that will ascertain Sikkim’s future for the next half a century.
Claiming that coming days would see more leaders and functionaries leaving the SDF, Ganesh Rai shared the concept of the anticipated new political outfit in Sikkim. Ganesh Rai and the group also announced plans to launch a new political party later this year.
