SIKKIM HOLDS SECOND FISH-CUM-BAMBOO FAIR

The second Fish Mela-cum-Bamboo fair, which is organised by the Directorate of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry department in collaboration with the National Bamboo Mission, Horticulture department was inaugurated by Sikkim Animal Husbandry minister Lok Nath Sharma, at New Market, Gangtok on October 1, 2021.

Minister Sharma graced the inaugural function as the chief guest. He was joined by Gangtok MLA Y.T. Lepcha as the guest of honour, along with the additional chief secretary, Agriculture, AK Yadav, chairpersons, advisors and heads of departments of the State government.

The fish mela aims to showcase and promote the fisheries industry for holistic nourishment through fish consumption and production. The fish festival will help create avenues for the farmers to display and sell locally produced fish, as well as develop an understanding and conservation of freshwater resources.

Government officials, private traders, NGOs, feed & implement manufacturers /traders, fish co-operatives are participating in the two-day event.
