Smart Technologies At Vietnam's Premier Expo
International Plastics News for Asia|October 2018

The 2018 edition of Vietnam Manufacturing Expo (VME) closed its curtain on August 10, 2018 with over 7,933 industrialists and parts makers who came to find the right technologies for their smart factories and utilise them to further upgrade theproductivity and capacity of Vietnams manufacturing and supporting industries.

Smart Technologies At Vietnam's Premier Expo

According to Capgemini’s Digital Transformation Institute, in the next five years, smart factories may contribute as much as $500 billion in added value to the global economy. Smart technologies offer a significant competitive advantage for manufacturers, such as increasing output, quality, and consistency. But they’re not easy to implement. Suttisak Wilanan, Deputy Managing Director of Reed Tradex said that “76% of manufacturers have an ongoing smart factory initiative or are working towards one, only 14% are satisfied with their level of success. However, manufacturers should not feel overwhelmed, especially for an early stage of manufacturing development’s country like Vietnam and those embarking on their journey should not change too much too soon or do so without the proper counsel”.

For this reason, VME 2018 - with over 200 leading brands and experts in the industry from over 20 countries, 4 international pavilions from Japan, Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan - concentrated to provide the technologies, solutions as well as the practical experiences about smart factory to support Vietnam manufacturers to overcome early-adoption challenges of Industry 4.0. The focus on Vietnam is timely as the country’s industrial production has been growing. Vietnam’s national index of industrial production advanced 11.2% on-year in the first 8 months of 2018.
