The BJP’s inroads into Andhra Pradesh and internal pressures have forced party president N. Chandrababu Naidu to embrace an apparently Hindutvist agenda in a bid to ensure that the TDP keeps a hold on the close to 40 per cent vote share it has in the state. The party is stepping up a campaign for the protection of temples (after several attacks, of late) and has been scathing in its criticism of the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress (YSRC), even accusing it of promoting religious conversions.
