THE PSNI have warned the public to be mindful of false posts on social media after a post on a Facebook page about a missing ‘highly venomous’ spider turned out to be a prank.
‘Glenshane Traffic Watch’ posted a message onto its Facebook page on Thursday evening claiming that a pet ‘brown recluse’ spider had escaped from a property within the Meeting House area of Maghera.
The post, which has since been removed from the page, warned that if anyone was to sustain a bite from the spider, they should ’seek immediate medical attention.’
It sparked widespread public concern among social media users, many of whom shared the post.
