Residing as kings of the underground for well over a decade, R Malevolence have found themselves at the forefront of the British metal movement in recent times, leading a charge in a way only they could.
And it's long overdue, to be perfectly frank, as this hotly-anticipated third full-length album solidifies and brilliantly builds on the legacy they've built so far.
What makes 'Malicious Intent' so absolutely undeniable is its insistence on never doing things by halves. The skull-crushing beatdowns of 'Life Sentence' only get murkier and murkier as it rolls on, whilst 'Salvation' featuring Trivium's Matt Heafy exhibits violent riffs at their most crisp and calloused. But then there is also the full-bloodied heavy metal worship of 'On Broken Glass', the chest-thumping Hatebreedesque affirmations of 'Do Or Die' and the beautifully balanced balladry of 'Karma'.
All are delivered with the full-blooded and fantastically passionate attitude of a band who love and live for what they do with all their hearts.
And it's everything about that wholehearted approach to heavy music that makes this a record such a triumph, one that deserves to be devoured by as many as possible, and one that pushes Malevolence further into the echelons of legend. Inciting mayhem has never been so much fucking fun.
