Get the Tone
For this month’s recording Jon Herington used his Gibson ES 335 dot guitar into a Dumble-style amp. Aim for a rich and smooth sounding overdrive and (ideally) a bridge humbucker to duplicate this. Allen Hinds used his one pickup Fender Telecaster guitar plugged into a small Red Plate Backline valve amplifier. A modern sounding overdriven tone was selected. The bridge pickup is most fitting so, again, go with that plus a rich sounding amp style overdrive. You can also experiment with a chorus pedal just as Allen does.
