Tell us a little about yourself. I’m an Armenian from Iran. I was raised in a conservative Armenian family along with my younger brother and sister, but I've always had a rebellious and wild streak. I studied in Iran and have my degree in computer engineering. I’m a free spirit with a passion for life. I want to follow my own path without conforming to the expectations of anyone or anything. So, for someone like me, it was really difficult to live in Iran where a woman has to cover herself (even as a non-Muslim woman) and doesn’t even have control over what she wears or the color of it. Not wanting to be a victim, I immigrated to Canada by myself in 2007 to create a better life and follow my dreams. I was lucky to be hired my second week in Canada by the first company I interviewed with. The hiring manager offered me the job the day of my first interview, saying that if I had immigrated to a new country all by myself, there was nothing job-wise that I couldn’t conquer. I’ll always be grateful for him. He’s one of those people that made a positive impact in my life and helped me with the foundation of where I am today.

In my early days in Canada, one thing that always kept me going and gave me the strength to carry on was the feeling of being free. I’ll always love Canada; the country that gave me what I was missing all my life - my freedom.
