DUBAI IS ANY petrolhead's paradise with its beautiful roads and shiny supercars casually parked at almost every street corner. If rows of tall skyscrapers leave you wide-eyed every time you look up, the grunt of a supercar adds to the glitter and glamour of this tourist magnet.
Needless to say, it seemed like the perfect place to test the latest V8 prancing horse with a gentlemanly streak. The Ferrari Roma is not just another new car from the hallowed gates at Maranello as it is Ferrari stepping back in time and making a gorgeous back-to-basics GT supercar.
A casual flick through Ferrari's past reveals its line-up of gorgeous 2+ models where the agenda was to transport its occupants with ferocious speed while being wrapped in a gorgeous body. The Roma is the modern-day successor which exudes this philosophy.
For starters, the Roma is achingly beautiful. Visually, there is a lot to take in but the design is somewhat pared back from the futuristic designs we have seen from Ferrari off-late. The flowing lines seem to be reminiscent of a yacht.
When it was time to drive, I had to be mindful of all the speed cameras in this oasis of fast metal. But I was in no hurry to break the speed limit, and casually feathered the throttle to let that V8 breathe.
