Fitness has become an important part of our lives and this month we spoke to fitness personality Jordan Yeoh. From his jaw-dropping pictures on social media, to his fitness journey and an adorable daughter, Jordan bares all in this interview…

MALAYSIAN CELEBRITY FITNESS personality Jordan Yeoh, rose to fame as a ‘durian hottie’, an incident that he talks about later in the interview, but for someone who is an introvert and has low self-esteem across all aspects of life, Jordan sure has made a name for himself. His millions of followers on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram are testament to what Jordan has achieved in the fitness industry. What a way to turn passion into a livelihood and inspire millions at the same time, right?

One look at his Instagram profile, and that perfect torso, you can say that he can’t afford a t-shirt (don’t take me literally!) A self-proclaimed introvert, he definitely isn’t shy of flaunting and baring it all on social media. A full-time dad to a four-year-old daughter Tiffany, Jordan ‘destroys fat for a living’.

While fitness has had a huge impact in Jordan’s life, he did not have an easy life. “Everyone goes through hardships in life, and so did I. When I was 8-years-old, I was interested in sports and wanted to take up running full time, but despite all my efforts, I could not excel. Then, when I was about 10-years old, I wanted to play badminton, trained hard but could not succeed. I love sports but I did not have the talent to excel in the field. I was also a gamer and a dancer before I found my true calling. I gave up multiple times. But this is what I like about fitness, you do not require talent to go to the gym, what you need is consistency, and I have that, says Jordan.”

THE BEGINNING

Everyone’s fitness journey begins somewhere and for Jordan, it was his love for sports and martial arts. As a fan of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, Jordan was inspired by their videos but scared to step in the gym. “Back in the day, the gym was a place where all the big guys used to hang out and a skinny kid going to the gym was scary. I did not go to the gym until my friend Andrew took me along and we enrolled together in February 2008. While the first day was quite painful, later, I had a sense of experience, it was like I have been sleeping for 20 years and have suddenly woken up. If you ask me what was my goal back then, it was only to look good and pick up girls. I remember that a ‘Fast & Furious’ movie had just released and I wanted to have a body like Vin Diesel. Now, fitness has changed my life, it is like a therapy for me,” says Jordan.

However, fitness is also a challenge for him. “Sometimes I think that I will reach a certain point of stagnancy in my career. You live the same way, do the same workout and sometimes that burning desire gets lost. But to break from that plateau and rise again is challenging for me. Because I know, that if I don’t sustain, I will get back to being a zero and have to start all over again,” explains Jordan.

Patrick Starrr

WHEN IT COMES TO SOCIAL MEDIA, BEAUTY IS A MAINSTAY, AND WITHIN that space there’s one person who dominates: Patrick Starrr. “Social media has allowed consumers to find people that look like them to trust a point of view that you may not get from a store employee,” he says. That connection with his YouTube audience inspired Starrr to launch One/Size Beauty.
