Who is calling the plays?
Dolphin Digest|September 20, 2021
The Miami Dolphins have struck out the last two seasons at hiring the right offensive coordinator for their football team.

Who is calling the plays?

Since head coach Brian Flores has taken over, it has been a concern and remains one heading into the 2021 season.

Flores did not pick one new offensive coordinator this year; he picked two. That would give Flores four offensive coordinators in three seasons, which isn’t ideal.

The co-offensive coordinators are Eric Studesville and George Godsey. Studesville was the running backs coach and run game coordinator in 2020, so he was promoted to co-offensive coordinator. Godsey was also promoted, as he was the tight ends coach last season.

Both co-offensive coordinators still remain as their position coaches to go along with their new titles.

The biggest question about the decision to have co-offensive coordinators was which coach would be calling the plays? They may be “co-offensive coordinators,” but whoever is actually calling the plays on game day is the actual offensive coordinator.

If you thought Flores would give this answer and clarify this for everyone, you were wrong.

Starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa only made the situation cloudier when asked who was calling the plays into his helmet radio.
