Studies show exercise can help reduce the risk of stroke, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s and some cancers, while also keeping weight in check and protecting bone density (see Build your strength). It can ease menopausal symptoms, boost mood, aid sleep and reduce stress, too. But it’s more than that. “Pushing boundaries takes commitment, but the sense of achievement and well-being is empowering. It’s life-changing,” states personal trainer Clare La Terriere.
