Shopping for weddings can be hectic, especially when it’s a destination wedding. And let’s not even get started on packing the right honeymoon looks! We give you the lowdown on every designer label, accessory, and jewellery designer you need to know right now.

DESTINATION WEDDINGS

They’re the ultimate collab between a holiday and deep-rooted tradition. The best part: destination weddings are crisp, the attendance is always up to the mark, the bride and groom are in close proximity more often than not, and the baraat is actually on time! The downside is that wearing real jewellery is almost out of the question, heavy ensembles will probably take up whole suitcases, and you’ll have to fl y in the entire crew. Dressing for one can be very tricky, but you’ll be on top of your game with these hacks.

Start with basing your looks on your location, and then work backwards. If it’s near a beach, opt for pastels—they always photograph well. Keep the silhouettes easy; you will need them to be airy to beat the humidity. We absolutely love Essé by Sahib & Sunayana’s SS’19 lavender lehenga for the big day. “There is a strategic use of fabric, drapery, and embroidery so that the garment is lightweight and hassle free, yet has the apt amount of bling for the bride to stand apart. The tones of lavender and grey are used to add freshness and subtlety to the ensemble and to balance out the bling,” says Sahib Dang, co-founder of the brand.

For a wedding in a colder climate, play with silks. We love Abhishek Gupta X Nandita Basu’s SS’19 collection that features floor-length anarkalis with silk applique. Also, don’t forget to layer with scarves, overlays, and odhnis. Take a cue from Janavi for their pure wool shawls that can be monogrammed, and Nicobar for their chanderi overlays.

If a palace wedding is more your style, take inspiration from the location itself. Opt for old-school styles with a modern take. We love Esha Sethi Thirani’s tiered nude sari with scalloped edges. If you want something more dramatic, draw inspiration from Ridhi Mehra’s SS’19 collection. “It’s a scintillating, breezy collection of demi-couture silhouettes featuring corset saris, kaftans, and easy anarkalis speckled with gemstones, sequins, and cord work. The colour palette features misty rose, yellow daisy, ruby red, and moss green with opal pink and pearl ivory,” elaborates Mehra.

BURIED TREASURE, IMPENDING WAR AND LOSS IN ‘THE DIG'

Just before the outbreak of the World War II, a small-time archeologist was hired by a local woman to excavate her land. The thought was that it possibly contained some Viking remnants. But what was unearthed in the mounds out in the fields was far more significant than they could have imagined: Buried in the grounds of Sutton Hoo was actually a ship that would end up providing a deeper understanding of the sophistication of the early Anglo-Saxon period.
