That&rsquo;s what&rsquo;s on the menu at Hucksters caf&eacute;, a Fifties diner-style eaterie with a difference.For here, the walls lined with old movie posters from the golden age of Hollywood and amazing memorabilia from stars of the past aren&rsquo;t just for decoration &ndash; instead they&rsquo;re a vital part of the mission to harness the power of real people&rsquo;s incredible stories to inspire and motivate the community.The caf&eacute; which is part of the Helensburgh Heroes Centre, a charity in the Scottish town of Helensburgh, was the brainchild of Phil Worms, who moved here from London 20 years ago and was amazed to find out how many famous people had heralded from this beautiful part of the world.&ldquo;I learned first about John Logie Baird, who was one of the inventors of television and was born and raised here. Then I did some research and found even more people with connections to the town,&rdquo; says Phil (55). This includes the movie actress, Deborah Kerr, who lived here until being a toddler, Britain&rsquo;s answer to Fred Astaire, the entertainer Jack Buchanan, Academy Award nominated actress Mary Ure and Jean Clyde, the star of the first ever television drama, Marigold. I couldn&rsquo;t understand why there wasn&rsquo;t much made of this town&rsquo;s heritage and decided I wanted to celebrate and commemorate those stars in some way. But I didn&rsquo;t want it to be a museum.&rdquo;That&rsquo;s when Phil hit upon the idea of a retro caf&eacute;, where people could get together and socialise while learning the stories of these famous sons and daughters of Helensburgh. &ldquo;We have a large population of under- 18s and, particularly in winter, there isn&rsquo;t a lot for them to do. So I thought let&rsquo;s create something for them that&rsquo;s also bright and vibrant and reflects the stars we&rsquo;re celebrating, such as Deborah, and create something like a Happy Days caf&eacute;.&rdquo;Since then, he and a team have filled the caf&eacute; with what he suspects is the largest collection of Deborah Kerr original film posters in the UK, as well as three of her own dresses. You&rsquo;ll also find the stories of Deborah and nearly 100 other famous faces of Helensburgh &ndash; just like a hall of fame.&ldquo;I wanted this to be a place that inspired the whole community, but especially young people, to think I came from the same school, walked the same streets or played on the same football pitch as someone who has gone on to do such amazing things.&rdquo;Even though they&rsquo;re thousands of miles from Hollywood, the idea is to demonstrate that with the right application and ambition, you can do anything, no matter where you&rsquo;re from. &ldquo;By celebrating the past we&rsquo;re helping to inspire the future, raising the aspirations of young people in this small Scottish town.&rdquo;To continue this ethos of inspiration, the caf&eacute; also hosts a programme of events with authors, sports people and celebrated faces from all over the UK to give talks to the community about their life and career. &ldquo;We use the idea of heroes to hold sessions with all sorts of inspiring people, whether or not they come from Helensburgh. For example, we recently had Nile Rodgers, from Chic, giving an amazing motivational talk to our community.&rdquo;The caf&eacute; has also proved to be a real social hub for the community to congregate. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s great, because we get youngsters in here as well as older people who come and reminisce as the posters spark their memories.&rdquo; The plan now is to look at moving to bigger premises, so even more people can benefit from the caf&eacute;&rsquo;s stories as well as encouraging other people to set up a similar hall of fame to dedicate to the famous names from their own village, town or city.&ldquo;You don&rsquo;t need to do a Fifties caf&eacute;, it could be a library, a swimming pool or even just a website that tells the stories of the people from where you live. It&rsquo;d be lovely to go into a new place and go here&rsquo;s their heroes area and find out about the extraordinary people from that place.&rdquo;
