Funny Side Up

Comedian Aditi Mittal, one of the first Indian women to take on the world of standup comedy has now carved a niche for herself in the profession.

Funny Side Up

You realized you had something funny to say when…

I was shameless and enthusiastic about saying silly things right from childhood. Now when school friends meet me they’re like ‘Oh Aditi, what else were you going to end up doing anyway?’ I feel partly mortified and partly proud.

When did the ‘lightning bolt’ strike, so to speak?

It was more like the slowest lightning bolt in the world! I did open mics for two years when I finally got my first gig. Slow and steady, as they say.

Who did you try out your jokes on first?

My parents were obviously my first victims. They’re both extremely funny too, so it was a most encouraging scenario!

You speak about women centric topics from lingerie to beauty enhancements in your shows. Is it to sensitize audiences or are they just funny topics?
