On The Fast Lane
It's hard to navigate on the road less driven, but Porsche is adamant in building an electric future, starting with the Taycan. We have a responsibility to leave a better world for the next generation.
The Porsche Taycan is heavy. It weighs anywhere between 2,100kg and 2,300kg, depending on the model and battery pack you opt for. In contrast, a 911 Carrera comes in about 800kg lighter while a Panamera, which visually resembles the Taycan, is just below the 2-tonne (2,000kg) mark.
I’m not fat-shaming the Taycan. It’s a gorgeous automobile and it’s apparent the designers have put a lot of thought into every centimetre. I’m highlighting the Taycan’s weight because it is surprisingly quick. The standard 4S can reach 100kph in four seconds while the Turbo and Turbo S are even swifter, completing the century sprint in 3.2s and 2.9s respectively.

Porsche Taycan 4S
Taycan 4S, Porsche’s first-of-its-kind electric sports car is not so much about being an electric vehicle (EV) as much as it is about being yet another Porsche. It loses none of the details that are part of the Porsche gene pool, and smoothly blends traditions with futurism.

THE ICE BREAKER
Outside these windows, it’s absolutely freezing. Battery-sucking conditions, apparently, for electric cars. Fortunately the Porsche Taycan I’m currently snuggled in is prepared for such wintery hell with a suite of onboard heaters quick to pamper the batteries to peak performance.
