Fashion designer Michael Kors chats with The Weekly about his new jewel-inspired perfume
Scent, like a red lipstick, is an instant mood-changer and confidence booster. American fashion designer Michael Kors, who’s best remembered as the ultra-critical judge on reality TV show Project Runway and whose apparel, footwear, watches and handbags can be seen on countless women worldwide (Selma messenger, anyone?), understands this rule of thumb really well since 2000 when he debuted his first fragrance.
This year, he introduces Sexy Ruby, his latest perfume and the most sensual yet. Here, he spills the beans on everything perfume, from the importance of fragrance to him to his fragrance pet peeve.
Sexy Ruby is quite a departure from your previous fragrances. Tell us your journey in creating it.
It’s a little more sensual while still being very glamorous. It started with the ruby, of course – a multi-faceted, radiant and opulent gem that is instantly desirable. I wanted to bottle that and create something that would be an instant confidence boost to women. To keep it glamorous yet modern, we mixed lighter feminine notes with deeper sandalwood and musk.
