BEST FOR ON THE GO
MacBook Air
Apple’s brand new MacBook Air for late 2020 has instantly up-ended the laptop market, alongside the 13-inch MacBook Pro, which got a similar refresh at the same time. They’re the first two MacBooks to come with Apple’s own M1 chipset design, which potentially offers huge gains in terms of both the performance and the battery life you can expect. While these laptops have only been on the market for a couple of weeks at the time of writing, it looks as though that potential is going to be met – and as applications are updated to take advantage of the redesigned silicon, the speed gains should be even greater. This MacBook Air is essentially a major step forward in terms of components and architecture, for exactly the same price as the model it replaces.
In terms of the outward design of the laptop, hardly anything has changed from the previous Intel-based incarnation. You get the same 13.3-inch high-resolution display, and the same lightweight, streamlined construction – this tips the scales at a mere 1.29kg. Add in the slickness of the latest macOS Big Sur, and it’s the ideal laptop for getting stuff done on the go.
