Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai is the second busiest airport in the country and can handle about 25-40 million passengers annually.

Gateway to India

One of the main international gateways to India, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport was earlier two different airports—Santa Cruz Airport and Sahar Airport. The operations are handled by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), which is a joint venture between the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and a consortium led by GVK Industries Limited, which was responsible for the mordernisation of the airport since February 2006. ‘Maharaj’ was added to its name on December 8, 2016, on demand by the Government of Maharashtra. The airport has two terminals—Terminal 1, which is the domestic terminal and Terminal 2, that handles the international operations. The airport has won a string of awards including the Best Airport in India award at the Skytrax 2016 World Airport Awards and Best Airport in the World for 2015 in the 25-40 million passengers per annum category by the Airport Council International.
