Dealing With Confidence Crisis

Нave you ever felt mentally weak, stuck in a spiral of negative thinking that you will never succeed in anything you do and you should just give up and accept a life of mediocrity? If yes, you might be experiencing a condition called confidence crisis. A confidence crisis, as the name suggests, happens when you experience a serious loss of self-assurance and self-belief. You will be filled with self-doubts and begin worrying that you are completely incapable of achieving anything. It's hard to talk about these feelings with others as you don't want to be perceived as weak or incapable.

For example, if you are trying to lead and motivate a team you can't appear to be frightened and weak. You have to maintain a brave face and act like everything is going to be fine. But inside you might be feeling powerless, not up to the task, questioning your own abilities, feeling this isn't what you signed up for, feeling that you want to quit, and so on.

What causes Confidence Crisis?

There is no single answer to this as a confidence crisis can happen due to a variety of factors. However, some of the most common reasons are,

Feeling overwhelmed or inadequate: This is a common problem for those who are perfectionists. Such people feel like they can never do enough and are constantly worrying about failure and its consequences. Over time or if some mistakes happen, this can lead to a lack of confidence.

Lack of self-esteem: This is usually caused by a variety of factors like bad childhood experiences, criticism from others, and constantly comparing themselves with others who have more money, beauty, or status in life. People with low self-esteem will endlessly doubt their abilities and feel they are not good enough even if they achieve something.
