Growing up, the question I was asked more than any other was: “What’s it like to have Jeanne Little as your mother?”
And really, that’s impossible to answer in only a few short words. So, the answer I would give was: “Dreadful. You try being woken up by Jeanne Little at 7 am for school every morning and see how you like it!”
Yes, my mother was like that all the time. Mum was not an act or a character, like Norman Gunston or Dame Edna, as many suspected. She was so loud, unstoppable, and just such an incredible force of energy and fun that most people couldn’t believe it. And if I did tell them, they’d look at me and marvel, like they’d discovered the Easter Bunny really existed.
