There was plenty of lamentation when Apple removed the headphone jack from its iPhones back in 2016, but five years later, we still see new smart devices with the venerable 3.5mm jack, though it’s now in a ‘low/high’ tier - many entry level smartphones still include the analogue headphone jack for cost conscious users, while some high-end smartphones have kept the jack for higher fidelity audio - the Asus ROG Phone 5, for example, has kept this so gamers can use their gaming headsets and not encounter any form of audio lag, while Sony’s Xperia 1 III caters to audiophiles and mobile cinema fans who want high-resolution audio fidelity, which is still the main domain of wired audiophile headphones and In-Ear Monitors (IEMs).
