Lenovo’s smallest ThinkPad X1 does better than its size suggests

We are quite familiar with Lenovo’s ThinkPad series and the familiar minimalist monolithic flat black industrial design, and the ThinkPad advantages of the series, from the now unique red TrackPoint, business-friendly security features, to toughness and durability (all ThinkPads models are tested to meet military standards). As the name suggests, the ThinkPad X1 Nano is part of the premium X1 range, and also the lightest notebook of the family, thanks to its carbon fibre and magnesium alloy chassis.

As befitting the ‘Nano’ moniker, this notebook is a sub-1kg 13-inch notebook with a profile that’s just 13.8mm thick, and there’s just enough space on the left side of the chassis for two USB-C (Thunderbolt 4) ports and headphone jack. There are no input ports on the right, simply the power button and an exhaust, while an interesting little touch is that the ‘i’ in the ThinkPad decal on the lid lights up when in use, and glows when the notebook is in sleep mode, which is actually a handy indicator of power state when you’re carrying this little notebook from desk to dining table.
