The PRISM+ 86-QE PRO gives you plenty of 4K bang for your buck

We had a little bit of luck, as we managed to get the first unit of the PRISM+ Q86-QE Pro TV for review, and yes, that’s a massive 86-inch panel that you can now get for S$3,199, which is about half the price of what a current generation 4K 65-inch OLED TV would cost you.

To get to such an attractive price, PRISM+ had to reduce manufacturing cost, which is why their TVs don’t come with a processor or a full array backlight. If you tend to watch a lot of streaming service, you’ll hardly notice the ‘missing’ processor, but if, like my mum, you spent 10 hours a day watching the Tokyo Olympics on Free-to-Air (she only watches those channels, even though I have Disney+, Netflix and Apple TV+) then it’s quite obvious that the source is 720p, with a lack of definition to text and faces. Backlighting is also edge-lit, not full array, which means that the screen doesn’t usually have a high contrast range, and can look ‘dark’ in a bright environment.
