Thinking about using a breastpump? Once you have made the decision to use a pump many questions about expressing and breast milk storage will come up. This month we have spoken to Sioned Hilton, Medela UK’s in-house Lactation Consultant to get some tops tips and get her expert advice on the topic.
Whilst milk from mum is always best, there may be times when expressing can be effective during a mother’s breastfeeding journey. It could be to feed a baby in NICU, help with feeding multiples, give your partner the chance to feed your baby or just to give you some much deserved time off.
It is recommended that breastfeeding is established before you start to express. Usually the first 4 weeks gives ample time for practice, to work through those early learning experiences to latch and position baby effectively and build your milk supply.

It can be daunting knowing where to start when looking for a breast pump but once you have established what kind will be most beneficial to your needs, it will help you make an informed decision.
