Dr Alice Lee talks to Lily Ong about the value of a thick skin in her pursuit of learning and growing as a businesswoman.
If you ask geneticist-turned-entrepreneur Dr Alice Lee a year ago, if she imagined herself working for a 38-year-old company like Cosway Malaysia, she would have said no. “Everything that has happened to me in this past year is a blessing and I am thankful every day for the opportunities,” said the founder, CEO and clinical geneticist of ADCAS LifeScience.
Beneath her sweet personality is a strong woman, who spent 12 years in the UK building a career as a clinical geneticist working on blood-related diseases. “At the Royal Free Hospital in London, I was part of a team that was developing an immunosuppression drug that will help a patient’s body accept the cells of a donor. To test the drug, we would carry out a DNA screening to calculate the impact of the drug on a patient’s cells,” she reflects.
