Bunbury is well-known for the wild yet friendly dolphins that interact with people in Koombana Bay, in the South West region. Here, make a beeline for the Dolphin Discovery Centre as warmer months beckon these gentle creatures to the shores in front of the centre. For a more exciting experience, which your little ones will adore, sign up for a dolphin swim tour between November and April, or an eco-cruise! Do also make time for the first theatre of its kind, Digital Dolphinarium, at the centre.
Just a short 40-minute drive south from Perth, you’ll also find pods of playful dolphins frequenting the coastal waters of metropolitan Rockingham and Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. Meanwhile, at the Monkey Mia beach in the Coral Coast region, which boasts azure waters, bottlenose dolphins swim near the shores daily to interact with humans. You’ll also be allowed to enter the shallow parts for opportunities to help hand-feed the dolphins, under the supervision of park rangers, usually between 7.45am and 12pm.
