Wet or sweaty palms can be challenging to live with, especially when you’re often meeting clients. The best remedy is to fully understand its causes and solutions.

You walk into a meeting room to greet your client, but quickly pull your hand away when you notice how sweaty your palms are. This leads to an awkward silence and you try to crack a joke to defuse the tension, but your hands are still wet and uncomfortable.

You could be amongst the two per cent of the population affected by what scientists call hyperhidrosis – a condition in which your natural perspiration is excessive. Although there is still no sure cause of this condition, it may be hereditary or related to over-activity in the systemic nervous system. It’s not just your hands that may sweat excessively but also other key parts of your body, such as your underarms.

Dr Khoo says, “There may be no apparent reason as to why your palms become excessively sweaty, but It is commonly provoked by emotional stress or hot weather. Nervousness, too, increases sympathetic discharge in the nervous system, resulting in excessive sweating.”
