The New York-based model is working her way around the world with meticulous portraits and streetscapes that capture where she is—geographically and emotionally. She talks art and fashion with Eliza O’Hare.
Your pencil drawings are dark and intimate—how would you describe them?
I’m not interested in drawing someone unless they are exuding their personality in some fashion. So I am not really executing a style ... I am just selective with my subjects. But I do prioritise an accurate representation of whoever I choose to draw, especially if I am drawing someone I know. I’ll ask to draw them more than once if I haven’t yet “got it”; some friends get biannual requests. I aim to capture the personalities of my subjects when I draw them, or whatever moment is happening between us.
Pencil and paper is completely portable. Where do you usually draw—it looks like it’s on go-sees?
