Revitalised Balinese Course

Bali is renowned as an international holiday paradise. Even their golf courses have become a yearly stop for golf travelers.

Revitalised Balinese Course

One of Bali’s first golf courses has transformed into the Bali National Golf Club in Nusa Dua. New ownership, a course closure (it was previously the Bali Golf and Country Club) and revitalisation saw the new course emerge three years ago. The response from golfers and professionals to the Nelson-Haworth design was very positive and led to it being recognised by a leading Asian golf magazine as the best golf course renovation in Asia for 2014 and, in 2015; the world’s third best renovated course.

In 2017, Golf Digest (USA) Editors Choice Awards also recognised the course as the best Indonesian golf resort.

This is well-deserved recognition for a meticulously maintained course that is usually a riot of colour year round from its extensive landscaping. So important are these gardens that a team of some 120 gardeners works diligently in maintaining them.

The 6,552m course which reopened in 2014 under Indonesian ownership saw some holes relocated to make way for more villas and a hotel which are now under construction and expected to be completed in the second half of 2018.

While the most significant changes were to the 17th and 18th holes one of the major upgrades was a switch from 328 Bermuda grass to paspalum on the fairways and tees and, TifEagle grass on the greens. Now the course looks like a billiard table top to make it a perfect surface for golf. The greens are very fast and true but some of them are undulating to make them sufficiently challenging.

What's Next For Carson Palmer?

Carson Palmer is an old football player in the prime of his golf life. The 2002 Heisman Trophy winner, now 37, recently took a month to decide if his body could survive another NFL season at quarterback. The answer, to the relief of Arizona Cardinals fans, was yes, and so Palmer’s dream of playing golf every day will wait a little longer. “Some guys wonder if they’ll get bored with golf in retirement, but I don’t envision ever having that problem,” says Palmer, who is “always up for 36 in a heartbeat” when being a dad to two young kids allows it.
