THE TERM SELF-DEVELOPMENT or personal development is self-explanatory. You’d be surprised to learn that practically, it’s a journey that requires a substantial and longterm commitment to being the best version of yourself. Jason Bernic defines it as a journey of personal growth and an accumulation of the actions that we take to move us from where we are to where we want to be. ‘More importantly, it’s the transformational work that we do to shift our way of being so we can be the best version of ourselves,’ he says.
So, what are the benefits of embarking on this journey? ‘An improved relationship with yourself, others, things and the world, and as a result, the confidence to show up and create a life of happiness and freedom.’ Essentially, when you work on yourself, you work on that part of the equation of life. Bernic affirms that if you experience personal growth, then your contribution to everyone and everything that you affect is improved. ‘Consider all of your business and personal relationships. If you were to work on, for example, developing only your communications skills, then your communication within those business and personal relationships would be better.’
