My best friend Sasha was insisting that heading to a bar one Saturday night would be good for me. I was getting over a bad breakup, so I decided to give it a shot. Sasha was going to be with some of her friends from medical school. “One of them is bringing his cousin from the States,” she said casually, and I just said okay. Soon, we were in a chill izakaya in Makati, but early on, I was already getting kind of bored, I didn’t know anyone at the table, and then he walked in—this cousin from the States—and my jaw dropped at how handsome he was. He was tall, with pallid skin, gorgeous blue eyes, and a body that other men would kill for… we made eye contact, and my stomach fluttered.
