This year has seen a quite unprecedented situation. The world has been brought to a standstill by Covid-19 and the global economy has been devastated by an enforced cessation of activity for so many businesses. But there is the hope of a speedy recovery, and the businesses of Essex have more reason to be optimistic than most.

Simone Robinson, regional director of IoD East of England, believes the exceptional people and entrepreneurial spirit of Essex will be a catalyst for the bounce back.
Simone explains: ‘I am incredibly proud to see a selection of our IoD Essex members and ambassadors profiled as business leaders in this issue of Essex Life. These people represent the experience, ambition and resilience that we need as we start this new phase in Covid-19 recovery and move towards our exit from the European Union.
‘The IoD has represented and supported its members for more than 100 years, and rarely more so than in the last few months. As we face new challenges, it has never been more important to develop the skills and governance we need to evolve and succeed alongside a changing commercial landscape.
‘Among many initiatives, including waiving joining fees and a new monthly membership offer, the IoD has launched a new Centre for Corporate Governance and a Virtual Development Centre, enabling individuals to remotely access accredited leadership development and director qualifications. Our mission is, as it has always been, to drive positive change and help business leaders be the best they can be.
