Inspirada en la historia del periodista estadounidense Jake Adelstein, se estrenó Tokyo Vice, la serie de drama y crimen protagonizada por Ansel Elgort. Allí interpreta a un joven apasionado por su profesión y los asuntos policiacos en una ciudad empapada de neón, donde lo único seguro es que nada ni nadie son realmente lo que parecen.

NO ES COMÚN VER A ANSEL EGORT rodeado de silencios, pero en la escena que observamos hasta el sonido del golpe de los hielos dentro de un vaso puede crisparlo. Frente a él, el embajador del más poderoso grupo de mafia de Japón le exige entregar su pluma de periodista a cambio de la vida. Alrededor de ellos, está la cámara del director Michael Mann (Heat). Las palabras que salen de sus bocas vienen de las memorias de un periodista de la vida real, Jake Adelstein, ahora convertido en protagonista del argumento de la miniserie Tokyo Vice para HBO.

Elgort, de 1.93 centímetros de estatura (Nueva York, 14 de marzo 1994) ha forjado una carrera escabulléndose a la costumbre de ser clasificado. Lo vimos en la cinta de adolescentes azotados The Fault in Our Stars (2014) y también huyendo del remake de Carrie un año atrás, o en 2017, perderse en el ritmo de sus audífonos al ser un asaltante de bancos en Baby Driver, recibiendo nominaciones al Globo de Oro.

Esto fue suficiente para que Steven Spielberg detuviera la cacería en la búsqueda de quien sería su estrella masculina en West Side Story (2021), tornando a Ansel como un renegado pandillero de Nueva York que encuentra al amor de su vida, mientras sus piernas y canto denuncian la inevitabilidad del destino.

Tras disfrutar el hecho de aprender salsa con varios de sus compañeros latinos en la adaptación del musical de Broadway, Elgort, de 28 años recién cumplidos, ha afilado la voz gruesa que lo distingue, hablando en un perfecto japonés en la adaptación de la vida de Adelstein para, con libreta en mano, llevarnos como audiencia al submundo de la mafia en la moderna capital del país del sol naciente.
