Spanish Delights

Sometimes, destiny takes you places, literally. And that is what happened in our case when we had to suddenly decide on making a trip to Madrid, the capital of Spain, when our son decided to get married there. The ceremony was simple and the celebrations got over by midnight. And then we had five more days to explore the city as well as other places of Spain. But here, let me just stick to writing about Madrid. For someone who is from Mumbai, the crowds did not appear to be overbearing since one is so used to seeing people, and more people, just about everywhere. Madrid is a city with the most population in Spain and it shows. Not to forget that it attracts tourists by the millions.

The city lies on the River Manzanares and apart from being a cultural centre in the European Union, it also exerts a lot of influence in politics, education, entertainment, environment, media, fashion, science, and the arts of the region. In addition, it is also home to two world-famous football clubs, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. We were fortunate enough to catch a game played by Real Madrid and though not football fanatics, it certainly made for an adrenaline-powered event. And incidentally, the newly-weds also took us to a high-profile fashion show, which of course I was at a loss to understand considering that what the models were wearing was certainly not what women would like to flaunt on the streets. Was it about the clothes or was it about the bodies?
